Objectifs pédagogiques
Ovarian mucinous and seromucinous neoplasms: problematic aspects and modern diagnostic approach- W Glenn McCluggage

  • To understand the terminology of ovarian mucinous and seromucinous neoplasms which has evolved over the years.
  • To be aware of the full morphological spectrum of primary ovarian mucinous neoplasms ranging from benign tumours (cystadenomas and adenofibromas) to borderline neoplasms to borderline with intraepithelial carcinoma to microinvasion to mucinous carcinomas to malignant mural nodules.
  • To be aware of morphological features which help distinguish between mucinous borderline tumour and mucinous carcinoma exhibiting expansile invasion.
  • To be aware of the clinical behaviour of the various types of primary ovarian mucinous neoplasm.
  • To be aware of the morphological features of ovarian mucinous neoplasms arising in teratomas and to understand the evolving terminology for such neoplasms.
  • To be aware of the importance of distinguishing between confluent/ non-destructive and infiltrative/ destructive invasion in primary ovarian mucinous carcinomas.
  • To be aware of “modern” grading systems for primary ovarian mucinous carcinomas.
  • To be aware of the pathological features which help distinguish between primary and secondary ovarian mucinous neoplasms and understand the limited role of immunohistochemistry in this distinction.
  • To be aware of the evolving terminology of ovarian seromucinous neoplasms, including the removal of the term seromucinous carcinoma (now regarded as a morphological variant of endometrioid carcinoma).
  • To be aware of the spectrum of malignancies which may arise in ovarian seromucinous borderline tumours.
  • To be aware of the molecular underpinnings of primary ovarian mucinous and seromucinous neoplasms.

Endometrial adenocarcinoma : from morphology to molecular classification – Robert Soslow

  • To understand the morphological classification of endometrial carcinoma
  • To identify the details of the 4-tiered TCGA molecular classification of endometrial carcinoma, the PROMISE algorithm and morphological correlates
  • To be able to compare the clinical correlates of molecular classification and morphologic classification, and discuss FIGO 2023 staging
  • To be aware  where the morphology is misleading and molecular classification takes precedence
